#MixtapeMondays: DJ Seoul – Resonance

DJ SeoulThis week’s Mixtape Mondays artist is such an honor to me. I like to think that every DJ has a silent mentor, someone they admire, respect and study intently to see how they work and inspire your craft. For me, that mentor is DJ Seoul, (@djseoul) a veteran and a staple in Detroit’s underground electronic music scene.

I met DJ Seoul for the first time in Ohio, ironically, when Detroit Techno Militia was booked at a music festival that a friend of mine was DJing at as well. Since then, DJ Seoul and I have done shows together everywhere from Detroit to the Florida Keys, and each time I learn something new, or re-affirm what I was taught.

Among the lexicon of his many skills as a DJ are mixing, scratching, beat juggling and more. He has a vast collection of records that would make any vinyl junkie jealous. If there is anything that I have learned over the years from the DJs that have mentored me, it’s the importance of having a good record collection, and maintaining your turntable skills. I’m sorry to all you CD DJs out there, but there is no substitute for watching a good DJ play vinyl.

Seoul is currently touring Europe with Detroit Techno Militia. Check out this mix and show him some love as he brings Detroit techno to the world.
