I Get Free Stuff and I’m Coming to Charlotte

I haven’t written here in quite a while. Even longer if you consider how long it’s been since I wrote something other than a Mixtape Mondays post. So this is the mid-term state of my union, for all of those who are curious to know what’s going on in the world of DJ Meph.

First and foremost, is my new website, Detroit Underground. I have been actively writing and producing videos about many of Detroit’s independent artists, musicians and other things that are going on around the area. It has been a fun new adventure, that has taken me to new places I have never been before. So please, if you love Detroit, and you want to stay in touch with everything that goes on in the underground scene, support Detroit Underground so we can continue to build and support the local people who represent the city so well.

HP ENVY 14 Beats EditionAside from all of that, I have also been getting a lot of free stuff lately, mostly through my relationship with the online technology and gaming community, Icrontic. I recently received a CD crate from SLAPPA, which I reviewed at Icrontic. I also received a fully-loaded HP Envy 14 Beats Edition for DJing, making music and producing video. That has been an amazing experience, which I will also be chronicling at Icrontic. The unboxing video is done and will be posted soon, as well as many future discussions and journals of my life as a DJ and producer.

Naturally, I’d like more free stuff! I may be a broke ass DJ, but I’m starting to get a lot of recognition for all my hard work. Together with Icrontic we are building a community of technology-oriented home studio enthusiasts and it’s really starting to take off. Icrontic is a very well established community that sees an average of 250,000 visitors per month. We can provide exposure for electronics, cases, software and more, and apply them to our everyday lives so that our readers can get a true understanding of what benefits the product will have to them.

DJ Meph at The FillmoreAs for my DJing career, I have been blessed to play some amazing shows at even more amazing venues over the summer, including my performance at The Fillmore for Ignite Great Lakes with DJ Rachael P. I also got a chance to spin at the iSpy Magazine stage at the Ann Arbor Art Fair, and returned to play a set at the i3Detroit Hackerspace afterparty for Maker Faire Detroit.

In the beginning of September I will be visiting Charlotte, North Carolina and playing a few shows there as well. One show has been secured already, which will be at Crown Station on Wednesday, September 7th. I will be re-uniting with my good friend Boof, and we will be performing a Rocktronic-style set. If you live in Charlotte and you can’t make it to that show, stay tuned because more shows will be announced soon.

I have also written my first piece for a new blog called intoDetroit, which should be posted soon. intoDetroit is a community-based website based on a few of us suburban types that are interested in moving to Detroit. I’m very looking forward to getting involved with this project, and I am planning on moving to the city very soon.

Last, but certainly not least, after searching for the past ten months, I think I may have finally found a job. I can’t give away too much about it, but I can say that it’s a startup, based in Detroit, with a community orientation and purposed to bring vital resources to professionals in the Detroit area. Wish us luck as we go through our final stages of finding funding.

Thanks to everyone for your support in what has been a difficult time in my life. Without these challenges, my life would be boring and meaningless. Without great friends, I would have no one to share the good times with. Keep doing what you’re doing, Detroit. I will be coming home soon.
